Experts Give HIPAA Interpretations
Health Data Management
(November 09, 2004)
The Accredited Standards Committee X12 of the American National Standards
Institute has launched a Web site to provide interpretation of HIPAA
transactions implementation guides. The site enables the submission of
questions to experts in the X12N insurance subcommittee, which created most
of the standardized transactions. The Web site also links to a repository of
questions and answers.
The site is not intended to replace the need for standards implementers to
read the implementation guides and conduct their own analysis, according to
the committee. Rather, it is a resource for resolution of issues of
interpretations or inconsistencies within or between the guides. To access
the Implementation Guide Interpretations Web site, visit
www.x12.org. Click on Quick
Links, then choose X12 Interpretations in the pull-down menu.
